Webster's New World Dictionary Definition: MENTOR
a wise, loyal advisor.
The Bible Definition in Eccleciates 4:9-12
MENTOR
-
Two people are better than one.
-
They get more done by working together.
-
If one person falls, the other can help him up. But it is bad for the person who is alone when he falls... An enemy might defeat one person, but two people together can defend themselves.
-
A rope that has three parts wrapped together is hard to break.
Mentoring means: being a wise and trusted friend to someone.
Matching mature Christians in ongoing one on one relationships with prisoners, ex-prisoners, or prisoners family members.
Mentors are first of all friends who care. They coach, encourage, tutor, guide and help in many ways.
Mentoring can be done inside the prison walls, in an aftercare facility (halfway house), in your church. (over 100 men are released from prison every day in Huntsville, TX alone and may be headed for your town) Mentoring helps break the continuing cycle of no hope the prisoner/ex-prisoner faces every day. It's easy to look the other way and do nothing, who would know, or you could help make a change in a persons life who desperately needs it!
Prisoners and the formally incarcerated are just people, our neighbors, take away all thier faults and hang ups they are still just people like anyone else. God loves PEOPLE and so should we!
Matthew 22:36 through Matthew 22:40
36Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Mentors are people committed to helping others succeed. Mentors provide guidance , often looking to the reources of others in the church and community.
A mentor is a positive role model
of the power and presence of Jesus Christ.
